Congratulations Leo! February’s Nurse of the Month

This is following an overwhelming response in the search for Leo on social media following a patient’s experience.

Leo sang a beautiful song to the patient in his care that touched the family’s heart. The patient sadly passed away, which led to the search for Leo on social media to see if he would sing at the funeral – Leo said yes!

We caught up with Leo to see how he feels about being our Nurse of the Month.

How long have you been working with the Guild?

“I have worked for the Guild for just over 2 years.”

What do you enjoy most about your job?

“I enjoy the freedom to choose my shift schedule and where I work. I also appreciate the generosity of the Guild and the gratitude of the hospital staff nurses and administrators towards agency nurses every time I work with them. The call centre staff are also very helpful.”

What attracted you to join the Guild?

“The freedom to take shifts anytime and anywhere, the salary per hour, the travelling to explore all hospitals in Ireland and the friendliness of the Guild staff sets them apart from other agencies.”

How do you feel about being our Nurse of the Month?

“I feel very honoured and humbled to be selected and appreciated as Nurse of the Month. I have been a nurse for over a decade and have never experienced this kind of acknowledgement of being nominated as Nurse of the Month. I have always enjoyed my work as a nurse and what I did was share a song with my patient who has recently passed away. I feel sorry for the family. I never thought that it would have an impact on them and their family. The patient was terminally ill and I could only comfort them through music and nursing care. My teacher has always said I can combine nursing and music as therapy.”

Thank you Leo and congratulations! You deserve it!
