Debbie, Scotland’s Nurse of the Year.

Congratulations Debbie, Edinburgh’s Nurse of the Year. We caught up with Debbie on her win.

How long have you been working with the Guild?

I have worked full time for the Scottish Nursing Guild for nearly eight years.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love the flexibility, picking and choosing where and when I can work. It was great when my children were younger, fitting in around child care. I also love going to the different areas and learning each shift.

What attracted you to join the Guild?

I spoke to Guild nurses on shift, and they explained about the flexibility and the incredible rate of pay.

How do you feel about being our Nurse of the Year?

Being Nurse of the Year means the world to my children and me. I don’t think you get praised enough at work, as at times you are just the agency nurse, so to be recognised for hard work is great.

What do you love about being a nurse?

I love caring and spending time with patients and hope to make their day a little better. It isn’t easy to have time, but I always come away from a shift knowing I have made a difference.
