How to access free Covid-19 home test kits

The Scottish government recently announced the availability of free, coronavirus rapid lateral flow test to all residents, to help stop the spread of coronavirus. This means that if you live in Scotland, you can regularly order free home test kits to ensure you have not contracted the virus.

If you are a full-time agency worker or you’re not currently receiving regular coronavirus testing through your substantive employer, we strongly recommend using this free service. Testing regularly protects you, your family, colleagues and patients.

You can only use this service if:

  • you do not have coronavirus symptoms
  • you live in Scotland
  • you’re 18 or older
  • you have not been told to self-isolate
  • you cannot get tests from your work, school, college or university (ask them for rapid lateral flow tests)

If you live in Scotland, request your free coronavirus test kits here.

If you think you have symptoms of coronavirus or you have been in contact with someone who has the virus, do not order these free tests. You MUST instead book a PCR test here.

Many of the collection sites are closed, there appear to be none open in Portobello, Edinburgh.Very frustrating, is there a shortage of home testing kits?

Hi Eileen, there isn’t a shortage as far as we know. You can check the locations in Edinburgh that have some available here: https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/#/location/Edinburgh
